September’s “Cause for the month” is the Friends of St James’s and Mission School Zimbabwe

St James’s School was set up by an Anglican missionary in 1958 as an agricultural school but in 1964 opened a much needed secondary school for girls. Since then it has continued to develop and now educates some 700 girls, aged 13 – 18. Although the school is some 50 miles from Bulawayo, it takes pupils from all over Zimbabwe and many of the girls come from rural areas. The fees are £1,500 a year, covering tuition, boarding, a uniform and stationery. This is beyond the reach of many families, but the Friends of St James’s provide bursaries offering much needed educational opportunity and help to some 18 girls a year.
