This month at Messy Church, we explored the story of Jesus healing a paralysed man, learning about faith, friendship, and how Jesus cares for us.
We played a fun teamwork challenge, helping the children to imagine what it might have been like for the man’s friends as they worked together to bring him to Jesus. The children carried different-sized teddies on a sheet through an obstacle course-carefully walking through hoops, avoiding ‘the crowd’, going under and over ribbons stretched across cones at different heights to the other side of the room, where a cardboard Jesus awaited.
Throughout watching a YouTube video: “Saddleback Kids: Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man” and taking part in a variety of hands-on activities, the children were able to explore what happened and why it mattered.
WHAT WE GOT UP TO
~ Making pipe cleaner people and stretchers
~ Creating woven mats and braided ropes
~ Decorating Bible verse plaques
~ Making a food craft person on a mat
~ Completing part one of our ‘Messy Church display’ to go up in our games room
~ Building Duplo/Lego houses and lowering a stretcher through the roof
Through these activities, we explored how the man’s friends showed faith, determination, and love – and how Jesus saw their faith and had the power to heal and change lives.
We enjoyed learning a new worship song together “Miracles by Valley Creek Kids”. There was lots of singing, dancing, and joy as the children joined in.
EATING TOGETHER
Afterwards, we ate together. Tasty sausages in rolls with chips, followed by some very popular choc-ices! A big thank you to Roz and Pelin for helping make this part of the evening so special.
LOOKING AHEAD
Our time together reminded us that Jesus still works in our lives today. Just as He brought healing and hope in the story we explored, He does this for us too, bringing peace, help, and comfort in our everyday lives.
