Recognising Jesus by the stories He told

At Messy Church this month, we continued exploring how we can recognise Jesus, this time through the parables He told. During our worship time, we talked about what a parable is – a simple story Jesus used to help people understand something important about God. The children also took part in a fun parable hunt, searching for pictures and thinking about what each story teaches us and how we can recognise Jesus through them.

We began our time together with a lively game of “Parable Corners” where the children used clues to run to the correct parable picture. We then watched a video showing the different parables we would be exploring in our activities, helping the children become familiar with each story.

What we got up to:

Making sheep masks to remember The Lost Sheep

  • Bandaging cardboard people – linked to The Good Samaritan
  • Making Mustard Seed bookmarks
  • Planting seeds to explore The Sower
  • Created celebration hats for The Prodigal Son
  • Making coin headbands for The Lost Coin
  • Making yummy Easter nests

Through these activities, we explored how each parable helps us see who Jesus is – His love, forgiveness, care, and the way He helps our faith grow.

Eating together

We finished the afternoon by sharing a lovely meal together. A big thank you to our wonderful cooks, Rosie and Steve, for providing delicious jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings, followed by meringue, cream, and fresh fruit salad for dessert. It was a joyful time of fellowship and conversation.

Looking ahead

Our time together reminded us that Jesus still speaks to us today through these stories, helping us recognise Him in our lives and in the way we treat others.
