What a wonderful afternoon we shared together at Messy Church as we explored this month’s theme Recognising Jesus: The Disciples-Following Jesus.

We discovered how Jesus called ordinary fishermen to follow Him, and how people recognised Jesus through the way His disciples lived. It reminded us that Jesus still calls ordinary people today (including each one of us) to follow Him.

Starting Together – Follow the Leader, Jesus Style

We began with a fun and energetic game Follow the Leader – Jesus style. The children took turns leading while others followed, helping us think about what it means to follow Jesus in our daily lives – listening, trusting, and learning from Him.

Creative Activities

Our room was full of creativity and joy as families explored the story through crafts:

Follow Me Footprints

Children decorated footprints to remind us that disciples follow Jesus’ footsteps – walking with Him and learning from Him

Fisherman’s Nets and Fish

Families created fishing nets and added fish, helping us remember Jesus’ words: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of people.”

Disciple Fish

Pipe cleaner fish represented each disciple –  reminder that Jesus Chose ordinary people to do extraordiany things.

Boats of the Disciples

Children made origami boats and paper plate boats with the disciples in to remember how the disciples left their boats and trusted Jesus when He called them

Jesus Calls Me – Mirror craft

One of the most special activities was making mirrors. When the children looked into them, they were reminded of an amazing truth:

Jesus calls each of us to follow Him

When people see love, kindness, and courage in us – they can see Jesus.

Wondering together

Throughout the afternoon, we shared important questions:

  • What does it mean to follow Jesus?
  • Why did the disciples follow Him straight away?
  • Who does Jesus call today?
  • How can others recognise Jesus through us?

We discovered that disciples show Jesus through love, kindness, helping others, and telling people about Him.

Worship and Teaching

We gathered together to worship and to hear the story of Jesus calling His disciples. We learned this key truth:

A disciple is someone who trusts Jesus and follows Him.

Together, we remembered:

“When people see us… they can see Jesus.”

Easting Together

We finished our time by sharing a delicious meal together. A huge thank you to our wonderful cooks, Ros and Ali, and to all our volunteers and families who made the afternoon so welcoming and joyful.

Messy Church is a place where everyone belongs, everyone is welcome, and everyone can discover Jesus together.

Looking ahead

We look forward to continuing our theme of Recognising Jesus next month on 21st March 26, 4pm-6pm. Meal included.

New families are always warmly welcome!
