“ Lyfe?” They say “Life begins at 40”, but this version of Lyfe at Ipswich Road URC began on Sunday 22nd January when John introduced the 5 strands of Lyfe which we will be looking at through our church life over the next few weeks.
John introduced each strand: Still Lyfe (prayer), Real Lyfe (authenticity), Spirit Lyfe (Holy Spirit), Just Lyfe (compassion), Word Lyfe (Scripture) and related each strand to a garden cane! These canes were then tied together to become one, then covered to represent a tent to show “Whole Lyfe” (everyday life). As the Bible Society says: “ The Whole lyfe zone is about making the invisible presence of God visible in everyday life. God manifests himself in his creation, even in the midst of mundane activities, whenever and whenever we invite him. Jesus is the fullest expression of incarnation – becoming human, he enters our world. The Holy God and our messy world connect. In family, work and society we learn to live our lives as Jesus would live our life in our place. We remove the categories of secular and sacred as we learn that all activity is of equal value to God.”
Our ‘ tent’ also symbolises the tabernacle, which God gave instructions to the Jewish people to build and take with them on their travels as a visible sign that God was (and is) always with them (and us). We will keep it up in the church for the next few weeks, to remind us of the journey we are making.
So where do we go from here? There are 3 study groups which will be using the material from Lyfe. Each session is relational and “helps people to discover a balanced, richer and intentional rhythm of life with God.” You are welcome to join one:
Group 1 meets on Mondays at Ann Curran’s home at 7.30pm. They will meet on 6th and 20th February and 6th and 20th March. If you would like to attend, just turn up
Group 2 meets on Thursdays at the church (in the crèche) at 7.30pm. Exact dates will be announced in the notices. If you would like to attend, just turn up or contact Xenia email firstname.lastname@example.org
Group 3 is specifically for those in 20-40 (approx) age group. It will meet weekly at Roy’s flat on Fridays at 7.30pm starting on 27th January. If you would like to attend, just turn up or contact Sam email:email@example.com
All addresses are in the church address list.
If you are unable to attend any of the groups and have on-line access, you can still participate by going to the Lyfe website:
https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/explore-the-bible/lyfe (or just put ‘Lyfe@ in a search engine). You have to register-but that is very simple and the site keeps a record of where you are in each area of study.
The aim is that; “Lyfe resources help people to grow holistically and to experience a transforming relationship with God through Scripture and spiritual practices that have inspired and sustained Christians throughout the centuries.”
That is not all-the Lyfe website also offers a daily message and other resources-including “Get Moving”- “a unique partnership between Lyfe and Fitfish that will motivate you towards spiritual and physical health. Divided into six sections, this booklet offers a combination of exercises for the soul and physical workouts for the body.” So check it out and begin Lyfe anew!
